A determined Human Rights Defender Lokshina chairs the Demos Centre in Russia; a think tank which seeks to implement international human rights laws. She also works as a consultant on Chechnya for the International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights.
Anna Politkovskaya and Natalya Estemirova were both close friends of hers; she was with Estemirova the day before her murder. They had been collecting evidence about Chechen man who had been publicly executed by Kadyrov’s forces.
Like her two murdered colleagues, she is a journalist and essayist. Her work puts her in great danger; her and her husband, also a human rights activist, have decided not to have children as the risk they would be orphaned is too great.
