Mu Sochua is a Cambodian politician. After an 18 year exile Sochua returned to Cambodia in 1989 and later served as the advisor on women’s affairs to the prime minister. 1998 to 2004 she was the Minister for Women’s and Veteran’s affairs.

She has been recognised both for her campaigning against violence against women and the sex trade, and for her efforts to mobilize Cambodian women politically. She helped inthe campaign that saw 900 women elected to varying positions.

As a member of the opposition she is excluded from government run TV stations and newspapers; making running for re-election a difficult and lengthy process.

Vital Voices acknowledged her work by giving her their Global Leadership Award.
